About Dhubri
Dhubri (Dhuburi in Assamese) is the headquarter of Dhubri District, Assam, India. It has a municipal corporation "Dhubri Municipalty".
It is an old small town on the bank of the river Brahmaputra and Gadadhar, a tributary of Brahmaputra. In the yesteryears Dhubri was an important commercial centre particularly of jute. Partition of the country in 1947 changed all that. Now Dhubri has become one the main routes for terrorist to cross the international boarder. This place is also famous for Gurdwara Dhubri Sahib in memory of visit of First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. And later it was followed by visit of Ninth guru, Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib. The Bhola Nath College (Estd. 1946) of Dhubri is one of the oldest and premier college in Assam. Other notable educational institutes are Dhubri Law College, Dhubri Girls' College, Dhubri B. T. College.
